Ping Pong Project
together with Isabell Hammelbeck
When thinking about art and typography, the same names usually come to mind for most people. It's usually men who play a significant role in books, museums and discussions around the subject. Unfortunately, even in 2022, women are still underrepresented in many fields, including art and type design. Yet there are many who have had a lasting impact on these disciplines. Giving some of these women a voice is the goal of this concept book concept book, in which 24 important women of modern art are presented.
Each of these artists is given her own space on a separate sheet and is and is accompanied by one of 24 fonts [co-]designed by women.
The work represents a design response to the conceptual artwork »Painting To Pay For My Healthcare« by contemporary artist Puppies Puppies [Jade Kuriki Olivo].
The artwork includes seven white portrait canvases in the artist's dimensions, on each of which she has alternately written the words »Anxiety« and »Depression« in black oil paint as part of a performance. Like the words on the canvases, the names of the artists in this work are adapted to the format of the pages and therefore stretched to fill the frame, contrary to usual typographic conventions.
